EVERYDAY IS FOR THE THIEF!
This is a common saying in our place but it has never meant anything to those in leadership positions. The stealing and broad day light robbery which is going on daily that has made the head, become the tail has become too glaring to ignore. It is not proper to continually look down on a man by always taking his belongings without considering its consequences. One day, he may loose his patience and commit an atrocity. This exactly is what is been done to us by our leaders considering the way they manage our resources.
Sometimes when one hears about the way some Privatization exercises, were carried out, one would just realize that we do not have leaders instead what we have are rulers. Leaders, lead while rulers rule! Leaders think and consider their subjects before taking any decision while rulers do whatever they like as long as their interests are protected. It is only those with leadership traits that understand what democracy of a truth means! Rulers hide themselves under the canopy of government for the people, by the people and for the people to perpetrate their evil acts. Sometimes, hearing those placed at the helm of affairs utter words publicly, would make one to understand that such people are not qualified to be in charge of a family how much less a community. But they find themselves in charge of a state and even a whole nation.
I used to weep for my people but these days, no more because I am convinced that change is coming very soon. When this change in question comes, the thieves would be rounded up and kept where they belong. Of course, criminals belong somewhere! If criminals are not kept where they belong, chances are that they would produce more of their kinds. This is the reason behind our backwardness. There could be more possible factors but this one seriously contributes a whole lot. Is it not what one has that one would give? Yes of course! How else then would one expect someone who has lived all his life knowing only how to commit crimes, to be the one to show us the paths of righteousness? Though they claim to have turned a new leaf but their fruits, say something different!
They ruin their various countries and turn their fellow citizens into beggars in their own countries. Yet they are not satisfied. They go as far as privatizing government owned institutions which they themselves would be the bidders. I once read about the leader of a national assembly who bought his official residence before leaving office. That is
to say that another building would have to be erected for the incoming leader as soon as he leaves office because as at the time of writing, he was still in charge.
This instance was singled out because there was not a publication or advertisement placed for the sale of the said house. He just entered into the compound, fell in love with it and felt that it ought to be his, for keeps because those that had that vision; did not know what they did! He simply indicated interest and approached his partners in crime and his wish was granted. This; means that as soon as his tenure is over, the house becomes his while the government, should look for another place to erect another building for the next leader that would come. How callous, how wicked!
If I may ask, how did he come about the said millions used in buying a house built for a national purpose? If this can be true of a non profit making house, then national corporations and companies that have been sold, must have merely witnessed greasing of palms by those who are connected. It is interesting to notice the fact that they are never moved by these atrocities after-all, no one can questions them. If they are taking to the law courts, the said judges are their partners with whom they share their booties. So, what sort of justice would one expect in such scenario?
These rulers are so foolish that they think that they are wise! They know, only how to outsmart themselves and make money while their fellow citizens suffer. They know as well how to pervert, delay or even ensure that justice is denied. By this, I mean how to already prepare the ground before their cases are brought to the law courts. They would use their ill gotten wealth to assemble the best lawyers money could buy. They can also use their positions to suspend a judge who they know would refuse to dance to their tunes. All these, are aimed at acquiring wealth which they already know that they; would not take any with them while going back to their Creator. What a pity! Nevertheless, they go on in pursuance of that which might even make them loose their soul. Money of a truth; is not evil but its love according to the Scripture is the root of all evil! Though it appears alien to the Black world, but I know that the law of retributive justice will surely prevail. It is even on its way to take its toll and that is why I am saying that everyday may be for the thief but the owner would surely wake up one day and this I say would be very, very soon!
Would Saddam Hussein have believed that what happened to him would ever happen, I am sure he would have thought twice. What about Gaddafi and his family that failed
to realize that it is a world that anything could happen? Even Gaddafi, is reputed to have had love and shown same to his people in the discharge of his duties. It is on record that to a large extent, he ensured that the river of wealth from the country’s resources, reached his people in various ways. I read that his own; form of social system through which, benefits were made available to his people, has never been rivalled in the history of Africa. He was primarily guilty of being too powerful such that anyone who spoke against him could go in for such a minor offence as that!
He was reputed to have so loved his country and his people, that he once vowed not to live in a house but in a tent until the average Libyan had a roof under him. What an attitude! It is only after one dies, that his good deeds are made known. Despite the fact that he had his negative sides, the way he ensured that his people benefitted from their wealth is still talked about today. He was a Pro-African and was said to have dreamt of a united Africa that would have a common currency and a central bank; a project for which he laboured before his death.
The way these people who acquired so much wealth at the dire expense of their people, died a shameful death, has never taught our dictators any lesson. A good number of them are even ready to go to the great beyond same way. What else do you expect me to say considering their attitudes towards vital issues of national importance? It is interesting to notice that they are in agreement with my earlier assertion that nemesis is alien to the Black world. Thus, they have the belief that they have enough wealth to escape the anger of the people. In other words, buy their ways through or have enough power to quell any rebellion. In reality however, they are daily under torments as their people cry.
Those people; who daily die as a result of avoidable circumstances such as hunger, give up the ghost, placing a curse on bad governance and those who champion such causes. They may not have been heard, but words are powerful. Many were denied what they were qualified for because they chose to condemn evil in the name of leadership. While yet others, lost their belongings because they chose to say no to what their conscience say is wrong.
Do you think they are silent? No and that is why the sad tales that had trailed our leading rulers. Get closer to them and you will know what I’m talking about! Scandals and abominable acts of various sorts are linked and connected to them even as they
chose to hold unto power by every available means. I read the story of a former first citizen of a country who is said to have slept with his son’s wife! Either consensual or manipulation, such tales are not to be heard. Nevertheless, we find it difficult to know that nemesis has already gotten hold of them. What they tend to wait for is the fully blown retributive justice wherein the people will unleash their anger.
There is no gain waiting for such because the anger of the masses is like the venom of a cobra and knows nothing but death. Slobodan Milosevic in all his mastery could not quell the anger of his people who preferred to and stayed away from work. They held unto their demand until the powerful was made to realize that power actually belongs to the people. A hungry man is an angry man. The only thing that satisfies him is the decision to give him the opportunity to fill his stomach. This can be gotten if and when he is shown how to catch fish and not giving him fish to eat.
It is disheartening that we are not giving either of them but are made to fend for ourselves. I once read an article in an African Newspaper wherein the writer, enumerated reasons why one could chose to die for his country. He however finally submitted that in his case, the reverse is the case because concerning education for instance; if one does not have money to send his child to a private school, such may never really make it. He alleged further that before there could be electricity in his house, he must have generated it. Health care is a luxury affordable only by the rich. His take on water supply, accessible road and security, only made me realize that my people are just about to explode. Things have gotten out of hand! Things can still be made right; our leaders just need to let the river flow!
